Crispy Oven Baked French Fries

Crispy!

Crispy!

For years, I have been trying to make French fries in the oven.  And, for years, I have been making making mushy, soggy fries that took forever to cook.  I finally stumbled across the secret to seriously crispy oven fires.  Here you go!

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes (we used 4 medium potatoes)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1-2 tbsp flour or corn starch
  • 3-4 tbsp cooking oil (we used safflower oil)

Directions:

  • Pre-heat oven to 450
  • Wash and cut potatoes into into pieces
  • Put potatoes into a microwave safe bowl and cover with plastic wrap (to hold in steam)
  • Microwave for about 5-6 minutes
  • When done, put potatoes, salt, and flour in a paper bag and shake to coat
  • While potatoes are in the microwave, spread oil on a baking pan and place in hot oven for a few minutes to heat oil
  • Spread potatoes (tossed with flour and salt) onto the baking sheet
  • Cook for 25 – 35 minutes.  Check while cooking and flip once.  Make sure all parts of potato have a chance to come in contact with oil
