As I write this post, it is chilly and pouring rain outside — a typical spring day in New England. I have never been a big fan of spring, and this year we have had a particularly long and unusually windy one. The end of winter always seems to drag on a few weeks longer than it should, and the elusive promise of summer always seems too far away. Unlike in the movies, Spring Break does not mean bonfires at the beach and fun in the sun. It means bundling up the kids, and wracking my brain for ideas to get us outside in spite of the weather.
Well, lo and behold, we found a lovely, bright spot under the clouds this year — Daffodil Days at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, RI. In spite of the misting rain, the gardens were absolutely beautiful. Blithewold has 32 acres of garden bordering the Narragansett Bay. By the time we arrived, the mansion had closed, so we didn’t get to tour the 45 room house, but we did get to wander around the gardens. Here is a photo gallery of our “Daffodils in the Mist”.
