A few years back, I wrote a post describing the ever-growing pile of unmatched socks in my closet. Time has passed, and the pile has continued to grow. Yes, every now and then, I do find the odd match under the couch or behind the bed, but for some strange reason, the vast majority of these poor socks remained single. I finally found the perfect solution — sock dolls! The general design of these dolls can be found in The Sock Doll Workshop by Cindy Crandall-Frazier. Her instructions are so well-written and easy to follow, I’m not even going to try to recreate for this post.
My dolls are hand-stitched and their faces are painted with acrylic craft paint. For now, I’ve just made “Mary” the babysitter (named by my daughter) and her passel of adorable little charges. However, the possibilities are endless. Maybe an entire family or animals like dogs, cats, horses, hamsters, or even chickens — 7 socks down, 54 to go! And, no I will NEVER make a sock monkey, so don’t even ask!
